Scanning electron microscope image of a layer-by-layer assembled thin film on a glass substrate, containing a cationic polymer and naturally occurring halloysite clay nanotubes. The films are made by alternately dipping the substrate into aqueous solutions of the polycation and the halloysite. Under certain solution conditions, the tubules form clusters that extend from the film surface. The image was captured using the Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) in the ITG's Microscopy Suite.
