Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Bone Scaffold
Media Details
Created 04/06/2010
3D rendering of the inside of a rod or strut in biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) bone scaffold (grey) showing an osteogenic cell (yellow) and bone (pink) lining the micropore walls. This is part of ongoing research in Prof. Amy Wagoner Johnson's laboratory at UIUC, in which they are exploiting microporosity as an additional space for bone ingrowth in BCP scaffolds with both macro and microporosity. (See Lan Levengood et al., Biomaterials, 31, 3552-3563, 2010 and Lan Levengood et al., Acta Biomater., doi: 10.1016/j.actbio.2010.02.026 for more details.) Rendering created by ITG staff members Alex Jerez, Eric Shoemaker, and Zach Johnson in the Visualization Laboratory.
